Meet the Maestros

The maestros of Montreal Tango Festival are at the heart of its artistic identity. Each invited couple brings a distinct perspective, a rich journey in tango, and a unique presence that will shape the festival through workshops, performances, and shared moments on the dance floor. Together, they create a program rooted in artistry, connection, and inspiration.

Federico Ibañez & Nuria Lazo

Federico Ibañez and Nuria Lazo represent a powerful new generation in Argentine tango: technically refined, musically sensitive, and deeply expressive in their dance. Their partnership reflects a compelling balance of elegance, precision, and freshness, making them one of the most exciting couples on today’s tango scene. Their achievement as 2nd place finalists in Stage category at the 2025 Tango World Championships in Buenos Aires and their most recent success as the 2026 Buenos Aires City Tango Stage Champions, confirmed what many dancers had already begun to notice: a partnership of exceptional promise and artistic clarity.
